Why are salmon struggling in the South Fork Nooksack River?

What is the seasonal watercraft closure on the South Fork and why was it implemented? What are log jams and what is their purpose? How are the salmon doing?

Join us on June 27th and Sarah Brown will clear up these questions and more in a discussion about conservation efforts on the South Fork Nooksack River by NSEA, the Nooksack Indian Tribe, Lummi Nation, and Whatcom County. As NSEA’s Stewardship Program Manager, Sarah has been leading outreach and education efforts on the Nooksack River for the past four years, and was recruited for a data collection initiative last summer to learn how recreators are using the river and what they know about salmon. Come join in a presentation followed by a Q&A session to learn about what’s impacting salmon, common misconceptions, and issues the South Fork is facing as summer heats up.
